After 10 days of waiting, I finally received the response from the Office of Premier on 26th Jul 2014. Though short, but I believed Premier Christy has taken my family’s case into consideration and will make the best decision for the people in Squamish, BC.   If we are not living under constant fear, I would not have chosen to write this letter to Premier Christy. If democracy could have protected us from his threats, I would not have chosen to tell the story. If there isn’t fear that he may do more things to harm my family, I would not have wanted my family’s case to go public. It all comes down to the one biggest fear- the fear that Sukanto thinks bullying works and would continue doing it to other people. (link)   It has always been like this, Sukanto would say that he knows what each of us has been doing lately because he has hired a couple of “friends” to check on us. It became a constant habit for my family to check who’s waiting outside of our house, to check who is following us at the subway, to check who’s sitting next to our table in a restaurant, to check if our phones are being taped, to check if we could visit Indonesia and still be safe. But one day, I woke up and asked myself what we have done: all of the nightmares began when he decided to steal my father’s assets. I said to myself, no matter what, this needs to stop.

There is a sweet smile on Sukanto’s face when he took the photo with Premier Christy. That was the smile he used to show in front of my family when my dad was alive. A smile I have never seen in 17 years. As I’m reading the response from the Office of Premier, I feel a sense of relief. I truly believe Premier Christy would make sure every citizen in Squamish will have a great future without having to live under fear.
