I’m sure many first time visitors would be fooled by APRIL’s Green campaigns, but not me who had been following their news for a long time.
Being chased after by many NGOs, such as Rainforest Action Network, Greenpeace, WWF and APRIL Watch for human rights and environmental violations, Sukanto felt the need to wash off his nasty past. In order to persuade his new Chinese and Canadian partners for the LNG project that he is a legitimate and honest businessman, Sukanto decided to build the biggest Green Lie of the history.
After some quick Google searches, I found out those Green campaigns and all the sustainability promises are lies and illusions created by APRIL.
According to official site of Forest Stewardship Council(FSC), they have officially terminated all associations with APRIL Group on 8 Aug 2013 based on the joint complaints made by WWF Indonesia, Greenpeace International and Rainforest Action Network. APRIL has been banned to use the FSC trademark on all of their products. Instead of trying to gain the certification back by committing to a more sustainable program, APRIL decided to spend all its effort into creating a “green website”.
Nonetheless, let me explain to you how this termination would affect our lives.
For example, APRIL’s products would now disappear from all of the Tiffany & Co. packaging as Tiffany had committed to ethical sourcing and only used paper products with FSC trademark.
Recently, 3M has also announced that they would stop sourcing from APRIL. You can now use your post-it notes without feeling guilty toward Orang Utan and white tiger.
APRIL needs to learn that a sustainable company is not just about making their website looks green, but more about really committing to responsible forest management.
This is truly fake. Pekanbaru is full of haze due to the forest fire RAPP creates. Shame on you- APRIL.
thank you for the information that is not at all surprising to me. However, there are those who wish to be fooling like the Liberal members of the BC Government and the business community who seem to believe LNG will be a big benefit to them. How I have no idea. I would like to see someone add up all the subsidies that the government has generously decided give the LNG industry. Of course they don’t pay. It is the taxpayers. Mr. Tanoto can live long enough to make up for the destruction of the environment and the wildlife in the forests of Borneo and Sumatra. Don’t imagine he has any Karma left.
