The True Story of Being Stalked by People Sukanto Tanoto Hired

During our trip in Singapore, I filed 2 police complaints and I’m going to share with you the details of them.

My family and I traveled to Singapore in mid-June to attend my cousin’s wedding. The weather was burning hot. We arrived Intercontinental Hotel located right across from the National Library of Singapore at around 7pm. Although the sun was down, the humidity in the air and the hot weather added a little more irritability to the night. Right after we checked into the hotel room, we received a phone call from a female asking if we have ordered room service. We politely said no. The woman then asked what room we are in, with no doubt, we told her our room number was 1106. However, at that point, none of us had realized that this call was actually made by the private investigatior intending to check our room number. Indeed, we were very surprised at Intercontinental Hotel’s inability to protect their guests’ privacy, allowing random people to disturb their guests at anytime.

After that call, 3 single guys checked in to 3 rooms right across ours. There was at first nothing to be worried about. June is the beginning of high travel season, so there is nothing wrong with 3 single men checking in at the same time. However, the most interesting thing happened: we start seeing these guys very often. When we left our room, they will go out of the room at the same time, entered the elevator with us, and making very creepy eye contacts with me during the whole process. These 3 guys – 2 bulky Chinese and 1 Indian – who look like people from the most shady part of the city who are always up for no good, are clearly following us. They always choose to eat at the same restaurant we eat at and sit right next to our table and looked directly at us at every second. At the mall, they do not choose to shop around, but rather stand outside of the shops we are in and waiting for us to walk out the store. Their eyes were sending unkind messages.

But they could not be following us, can they? Maybe they just really happened to like the restaurants we eat at and it was just a coincidence that every time we eat they are present; or perhaps they just enjoy window shopping and they decided to stop looking at the window of the store every time when we leave the store? Eager to prove that we are wrong, we decided to move to Pan Pacific Hotel a few days later, which is 5 minutes away from Intercontinental Hotel, to test our assumption. On the way, there was a biker that followed us to Pan Pacific, but again, we hope that it was a coincidence.

At the hotel, my sister saw another gangster-like Chinese following me and talk to the other side of the phone that “they are here”. Alright, we caught them, but we will not let him go easily this time. We decided to see what he’s up to. He walked up to the counter trying to book a room in Pan Pacific. When he realized that we caught him, he ended the conversation with the lady at the front desk quickly and asked for her business card. But his gangster look alerted the lady, so she hesitated to give him her personal business card and finally decided to give him the hotel’s business card. He then ran out of the hotel lobby and got up a cab but he was very nervous that he got hit by the car door.

A couple minutes later, I saw the bulky Chinese guy and the Indian guy who used to live across our room in Intercontinental Hotel were sitting at the lobby of Pan Pacific. After my family trip has been so ruined by these two men, I decided to confront them myself. Once they decided to follow us into Pan Pacific, I will not let them go out of the door easily – as long as I stayed in the hotel.

I approached them, and asked, “Why are you guys following us?”

Both of them soon became alert and replied, “Umm.. we, we don’t know what you are saying….”

“You are clearly following us. Why don’t you stay at Intercontinental? Why are you following us to Pan Pacific?!”

“Um…. I don’t know.” That guy turned to his partner asking for help, but unfortunately his partner decided to play Candy Crush at the moment very intently.

“Why do you go to every restaurant we go, and keep looking at us outside of every store we went into?”

“Umm… I, I, I really don’t know what you are saying….”

To be honest, I was very surprised at the moment. Not because of the fact that he would not admit what he has done, but rather, he thought that we would not realize what he is doing. That he actually thought that he had hid himself well (ummm… sure, he is doing a good job except keep making eye contacts and keep following us so obviously and keep allegedly going to everywhere with us without even preventing himself from being seen)

I soon notified the hotel staff and they quickly filed a police complaint for me and professionally sent a group of securities to watch the 2 guys. During the police interview, they claimed that they were tour guides, which, of course, is very convincing because tour guides obviously would only follow people around instead of guiding people around the city. Or perhaps they were just following us to gather some ideas about how to tour their “clients” around?

After this incident, we still continued to see a group of gangsters following us everywhere we go. There were 3 guys in a black Mercedes with plate SJV1019G and 2 bikers following us on the road. They were so aggressive enough even a taxi driver told us that we were being followed by some unfriendly guys and tried to help us to get away from them.

We filed another police complaint after realizing that there are 10 bulky guys following us on day 10.

After interviewing them, the police officers said that they are licensed private investigators from a PI firm registered in Singapore. They were being instructed to follow us. After investigation, the police officers concluded that this is an intentional harassment case instead of a regular surveillance practice base on their aggressive behaviors in the past 10 days and asked the hotel staffs to pay extra attention on us.

A group of at least 10 investigators were hired to harass me and my sister for 10 days. According to my research, the price of hiring 10 PIs is around $50,000 per day in Singapore. We have been followed by them for 10 days, which should cost the client about $500,000. I wonder who would have this much money to throw on surveilling 2 young women. I would also like to question the client’s intention of doing so because any woman at my age would be frightened by the fact that she is being followed by 6 to 10 gangsters everywhere she goes.

The Indian guy in the back seat and one of the bikers stayed in the 2 rooms across us in Intercontinental and followed us to Pan Pacific. The other biker is the guy appeared in the previous photos.

If anyone knows them, please let me know their motives and identities. Although Singapore is a safe country but it is still intimidating to be followed by 10 different bulky/ gangster-like guys everywhere.

I wonder what kind of benefit can make this client feel that spending half a million in 10 days to follow a young lady who’s 5’2 tall to be worth it?
