Response to Forbes Indonesia

Forbes Indonesia talked about my blog in their latest December edition.

Sukanto and RGE are absolutely right when they said they cannot comment about anything I said. I believe before Sukanto confessed all the sins he has done to my family, RGE would not be able to comment.

I started the blog because I love my family and Sukanto was trying to harm us in every way after my father passed away. From stealing my father’s assets to hiring gangsters to harass my family, I felt it’s my responsibility to share my story and it’s the right thing to do. Along the way, I also found that I was deeply wounded by my uncle in my childhood, and continued being haunted by his actions until today.

In the Forbes article, the journalist referred to an excerpt from the Sateri IPO Prospectus, saying that “a legal settlement was reached with such relatives in 2002”. And the source is coming from Sukanto Tanoto. I was once again astonished by the misleading and false statement published by the Company. With the fortune Sukanto owns, he continued fail to understand the terms of the Settlement or even hire a legal advisor to advise him. He twisted the facts and published misleading statements in Sateri IPO Prospectus. My family has never given up my father’s rights to him. Sukanto, on the other hand, is still sending private investigators to watch my family, occupying my father’s assets and has no plan in returning them to my family.

Sukanto’s slogan “3 C’s. Good for the community and the country, then it is good for the company” cannot get more irony. This slogan is derived from the principles of the Communism and Marxism. If this is Sukanto’s vision, he has completely failed at execution, making his company a living hell for many ex-employees, largest driver of deforestation, reasons behind the haze in Singapore, and the target of the International environmental groups.

Sukanto's destruction

In my blog, every story is true. Many former employees wrote and shared with me about their personal encounters in the Company. They sounded very depressed when they first approached me. They believed in every criticism Sukanto made about their abilities, integrity, race and failed to understand that the verbal abuses they received were just part of Sukanto’s schemes to manipulate his employees into listening him. “Bastard” is his favourite word to humiliate employees in public; at the same time, a perfect reflection of himself. The experience working with Sukanto not only brought down their self-esteems but also injected deep fear into their lives and their families’ lives. They lost faith and became held back. Some decided to retire early because the working experience in RGE has built up an invisible wall in their career.

Seeing Anderson standing in a photoshop edited photo reminded me the fake Green campaign APRIL claimed to have started many years ago. Although they have started building some green houses in the paper mill (for the media), wearing green uniforms in photos, adding more “green” color into their website, RGE and its subsidiaries have been caught lying to the public and continued clearing peatlands in Indonesia.

When dad was alive, he always got into arguments with his brother, Sukanto about the green policy. My father always urged the company to commit to the sustainable forest policy and engaged with the local community since he believed that is the only way to a sustainable business. It was more expensive trying to make the local community and the environment happy, but as he said, those are the costs that cannot be cut down. Of course, my father’s business partner, Sukanto did not care and strongly apposed to the idea. The cost that built upon others’ pain, blood and tear is never a cost to Sukanto as long as it saved him a couple of bucks. And as you all know, the rest is the history.

When you look at the photoshop edited photo promoting APRIL’s green policy and Sukanto’s ranking in the Forbes Rich List, please remember the villagers, former employees, my family and the environment that continued to be harmed and threatened by Sukanto Tanoto’s greed. Sukanto has all the money to spend on his PR team to voice himself but the people that are being harmed by him don’t.

  1. Dear wendy.
For the first. I think this open letter should be usefull for others people who didn’t know who is he? For the few months ago. I’m reading forbes, fortune, and some magz that approaching anderson tanoto. I think this young people is smart for his age. I didn’t know. What is they purpose. After approaching his son. And build tanoto foundation. Open discussion for the topic entrepreneurship. I’m still don’t get it.

But after i read ur open letter. I’m kindda interisting. And one case that really2 makes me curious. Is the tax of asian agri who blowed up in 2007 by vincent. I’m searching metta book in book store with the theme “saksi kunci”.
I’m still reading on it. And this book is really2 surprised me. Sukanto using public opinion to build power to recover his image after all that happened. That’s his purpose afterall.

I’m really2 sad to hear ur story. I’m chinese but i’m never imagined. I think his action afterall is embarassing. Such a dick action. The one that should be called bastard is him.

Stolen money. Get away from punishment. Using power and money to conquer land and everything he wants. Violence action. Forest destruction. Etc. For the billionaire in his state is very2 embarrasing.

I think u can send the letter to our new president. Mr.joko widodo. We could see jokowi action with this case. For indonesian police. I hope there is one light that bring peace to our beloved country. When justice can stand, strong, and can’t be buying with some people.

For u wendy. Keep moving on. May lord protect ur and ur family. We should believe someday justice will arise and punish him for what’ve he done.
